United States – On the eve of the election, we, the editorial staff of the Daily Deuce, would like to remind our readership that you aren’t so damned smart as to know what everyone else in the world should think and do. Tomorrow, you may find that people that you know, love, and respect will be inexplicably happy or sad based on the outcome of the Presidential Election. But you need to stop for a second and realize that it isn’t inexplicable at all. You are just choosing to ignore the simple explanation:
Intelligent, Caring people can reach different conclusions based on the same data, when viewed through their own experiences. Get over yourself. If you believe that the “others” are “voting against their own interests” it’s not because you’re so fucking smart, it’s because you don’t know shit about their interests, or you really just don’t care about them.
Why would a black man vote for Donald Trump? Maybe because criminal justice reform is his single voter issue. Why would a Texan roughneck vote for Biden? Maybe because he believes that the government should provide access to quality healthcare. Why would a satirical news writer vote for Jorgenson? Maybe he thinks it’s funny to throw away his vote.
So in the coming weeks, be kind to your friends and family regardless of the outcome of the election. Stop thinking you know everything. You aren’t that fucking special. And don’t forget the words of Alexis de Tocqueville who said: “These Americans are pretty groovy.”
